Every Report Counts: A major step forward in the UK’s fight against fraud and cybercrime
TheCity of London Policehas launched Report Fraud – a new national service designed to transform how individuals and organisations across England, Wales and Northern Ireland report fraud and cybercrime.
Why this matters:
Fraud and cybercrime now account for c.50% of all UK crime, costing the economy billions each year
Victims have long faced fragmented reporting routes and uncertainty about what happens after a report is made
Stronger, faster intelligence-sharing is critical to disrupting increasingly sophisticated criminal networks
Report Fraud provides a single national gateway for reporting, triage and intelligence, bringing together:
✅ Reporting for both fraud and cyber-enabled crime
✅ Centralised assessment and dissemination of intelligence across forces
✅ Clearer, more consistent victim care and support
✅ Better identification of serious and complex cases for specialist investigation
Built around the victim journey, this is one of the largest transformation programmes ever undertaken by the City of London Police and a significant upgrade to the UK’s economic crime defences. As Commissioner Pete O’Doherty notes, every report counts, not just for the individual victim, but in helping prevent harm to others.
For businesses, compliance leaders and ethics professionals, this is a reminder:

  • Reporting matters
  • Intelligence only works if incidents are surfaced
  • Collective action remains our strongest defence
