Panellist's Bios
Ali Tabari, Barrister at St Philips Chambers
Ali is an established fraud litigator, and practices in the areas of heavy litigation and insolvency from St Philips Chambers in Birmingham. Highlights of his 2022 work include:
- A 3-week trial before the head of the Commercial Court, Mrs Justice Cockerill, concerning an alleged fraudulent misrepresentation arising from the sale of a business, and
- A month-long trial in the Rolls Building concerning an alleged conspiracy between company directors, solicitors and the bank arising from the fallout of the PIP breast implant scandal.
He has been ranked in the legal directories since 2014 as a leading junior in his specialist areas of work, and is also an experienced mediator
Helen Briant, Partner at Trowers & Hamlins LLP
Helen is a partner in Trowers & Hamlins' Dispute Resolution and Litigation team specialising in civil fraud, investigations and complex commercial disputes. She regularly advises clients who are the victims of fraud and cyber breaches and deals with claims and recovery actions arising from fraud. Her work often includes delivering training and advice to clients to seek to prevent fraud.
Chambers and Partners 2023 describes Helen as "unbelievably talented. She is very switched on and brilliant at navigating a case. She has very good judgment, is a good technical lawyer and is very good at working out strategies. She is exactly what you want in a litigation partner."
Gaon Hart, Head of Public Policy, Customer Trust, at Amazon UK
Gaon Hart is experienced at developing Parliamentary and regulatory relationships, as a renowned expert in designing, developing and implementing global corporate compliance programmes. He has recently been Head of Public Policy in the economic crime arena for Amazon, covering UK & Ireland and prior to that was Head of Global Anti-Bribery & Corruption Advisory, Policy & Training for HSBC Bank, designing and implementing a global anti-corruption programme from scratch covering 64 countries and 230,000 staff. These roles led from his experience as a Senior Crown Advocate with the Special Crime & Counter terrorism Division of the CPS, where he was seconded to the Attorney-General’s Office acting as Lead Solicitor for the Government’s 2006 Fraud Review change programme, developing the UK counter-fraud architecture that still exists today.
Publicly, he represented the UK at GRECO, UNCAC and at an EU Mission to Romania, was Co-Chair of the UK Finance Anti-Bribery & Corruption Committee, advised the UN on their report, ‘Bankrupting the Business of Human Trafficking’ (Link), co-authored the UK Finance definitive guide to the ‘Definition of Public Official’ (Link) and undertook multiple public engagements including appearing before a Parliamentary Treasury Select Committee on behalf of Amazon (link).
Gaon is currently also a Non-Executive Director for the NHS Counter-Fraud Authority and Managing Director of Legal Advisory Worldwide (a boutique legal consultancy company).
Daniel White, Co-Founder, Synalogik
Daniel White, has been a barrister at Citadel Chambers since 2003 and is one of the Co-Founders of Synalogik. Daniel specialises in the prosecution of grave criminal offences, sits as a Judicial Officer on Sports Tribunals and runs the public sector team within his multiple award winning company. His passion lies in empowering people to detect and prosecute wrongdoing through better use of technology and data sharing.
Matt Crabtree, Head of Financial Crime at LV = General Insurance
Matt Crabtree is a financial crime expert who has now spent more than 15 years fighting insurance fraud. Matt’s role sees him managing all LVGI’s organised fraud across both policy and claims channels, managing the Financial Crime Intelligence Team and heading up with Special Investigations Team who investigate any element of criminality affecting employees and the supply chain. During his time at LV, Matt was seconded in to the City of London Police for 6 months where he became the first industry professional to attach to the Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department (IFED) to help tackle the problem of insurance fraud.
