Steven Murray - Head of Contentious IP at Harrison Clark Rickerbys
Steve is a partner in the law firm Harrison Clark Rickerbys (HCR) and has been litigating technology disputes for the last 17 years. In 2022, Steve and his team secured the World’s first Summary Judgment to be served by NFT. This resulted in the recovery of 89BTC which have been fraudulently transferred and enough BTC to cover costs incurred. Steve is now regularly instructed in Crypto Asset Recovery cases and guides clients through the minefields of the recovery process.
HCR is a full service law firm, in the top 70 across the country. It boasts a team of specialists who can assist with financial regulation disputes and claims of fraud both in the real world and the crypto space.”
Mark Laing - Senior Solutions Architect at Chainalysis
Mark is a Senior Solutions Architect at Chainalysis, working with government, law enforcement, and private sector customers all over EMEA to integrate blockchain investigations software and financial compliance tools. He has been with Chainalysis since 2021, having moved there indirectly following an 18-year policing career in the UK. Prior to leaving the police as a Detective Sergeant, Mark helped to establish one of the first cybercrime units in the country. He has been investigating illicit use of cryptocurrency since 2015, and has experience of numerous crypto-related frauds including blackmail, ransomware, and pig butchering offences.
Andrew Maguire - Barrister at Littleton Chambers, the DIFC and the Law Library in Dublin.
Andrew is a highly regarded chancery and commercial advocate, who has built up an impressive reputation in the fields of contractual and fiduciary disputes; many involving banking and financial services claims, including civil fraud claims involving cryptoassets.
Andrew is ranked as a leading senior junior in London in Banking and Finance, Financial Services Regulation and English Bar Offshore.
He has considerable experience in relation to international and domestic civil fraud and asset-tracing cases, often involving freezing and proprietary injunctions, NPOs and BTOs and cross-border enforcement of judgments and anti-suit injunctions.
Andrew Maguire, instructed by Steven Murray of Harrison Clark Rickerbys’ (HCR) crypto asset recovery team, in the case of Jones v Persons Unknown and Ors [2022] EWHC 2543 (Comm), recently obtained the first reported order for summary judgment in a crypto case, from the High Court of England and Wales, which secured the delivery up of fraudulently obtained Bitcoin (BTC) to the value of £1.85M. It is also the first summary judgment to be served by NFT Airdrop into the relevant wallet.”
