    The Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) has finally passed evidence on 98 law firms, accountants and celebrities who commissioned criminal private investigators to the information watchdog.

    CRIMINALS are committing fraud because they believe they are less likely to get caught, according to Greater Manchester Police’s chief constable. At a public forum chaired by Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd, Sir Peter Fahy said fraud is on the increase because bank robbers and other criminals see it as “a less risky” crime to commit.

    The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau has recently shut down some scam telephone numbers and is re-directing people to Action Fraud.

    The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau, working in partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE), Europol and European Member States, have seized or disrupted 328 website domains worldwide involved in the sale of counterfeit goods since Autumn 2012.

    Stephen Rimmer, Director General of the Home Office’s Crime and Policing Group, has been appointed as interim Chair of the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). Mr Rimmer will oversee the final weeks of SOCA. The National Crime Agency launches in nine weeks.

    Residents in parts of the UK have been receiving unsolicited pornographic DVDs in the post. Action Fraud cannot take reports on this type of scam as it is NOT a fraud. The packaging states that it is a premium rate phone line that will cost £1.57 a minute to get the code to unencrypt the DVD.
