    Alan Whiteley, 48, who remained on the Bluebirds board after being replaced as chief executive last October, had been arrested in 2011 as part of a Serious Fraud Office (SFO) investigation.

    POLICE will no longer deal directly with reports of bogus scams and minor types of fraud as part of a new way of tackling the growing problem. West Mercia and Warwickshire Police have signed up to the national Action Fraud scheme - the UK's central reporting centre - which aims to better collect information about fraud and financially motivated internet crime.

    THE four police forces in the West Midlands region are joining a national scheme aimed at helping to tackle fraud, including internet related scams. West Mercia Police and Warwickshire Police, along with Staffordshire and West Midlands, have signed up to Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud reporting centre, which acts as a central point of contact for all information about fraud and financially-motivated internet crime.     The East Midlands Collaboration Project – made up of Derbyshire Constabulary, Lincolnshire Constabulary, Leicestershire Police, Northamptonshire Constabulary and Nottinghamshire Police – has recently gone live with a financial investigation team of around 60 officers.

    Eight Romanian men who stole cable from remote rural railway lines and replaced it with cheap shop bought wire are beginning combined prison sentences of 23 years. Birmingham Crown Court heard the men, aged between 19 and 36, plundered rural stretches of the railway line between Evesham, Worcestershire, and Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire, causing chaos for commuters.

    The Metropolitan Police is considering asking the public to report crimes at new "contact points" in public places such as mosques and coffee shops as it looks to abandon traditional police station front counters.
