Cheshire Constabulary is warning residents to be vigilant following a significant increase in fraud offences. Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic the force has seen a 22 per cent increase in the number of reports of fraud across the county.

Action Fraud figures show £5,142,265-worth of fraud has been reported since February, with the number of reports totalling more than 2,100.

A total of £5,341,592 has been reported  lost by 2,204 victims of coronavirus-related scams.

The survey by credit reference agency TransUnion found 12% of British adults have successfully been scammed out of an average of £550 each or £3.6bn collectively.

The total value of fraud in Yorkshire fell to £16.2m in 2019, down from £52m in the previous year, according to research carried out by accountancy and business advisory firm BDO.
