Alex Jay – Partner, Gowling WLG (UK) LLP

Alex is a counter-fraud and asset recovery specialist. He has particular expertise advising on the complexities of international fraud matters, including considerations of relevant regulatory and legal frameworks and conventions. He has substantial experience advising on disputes with an international aspect, coordinating with lawyers in multiple jurisdictions to implement strategies to resolve issues and disputes or recover assets effectively and efficiently. Alex has experience acting for a wide range of clients in this field, including governments, public bodies, corporates, individuals, family offices, financial institutions and insolvency practitioners and officeholders.

Alex is also a member of FraudNet, of which Gowling WLG is a founding member firm.  FraudNet is an international network of lawyers in over 60 countries who are the leading civil asset recovery specialists in each country. Alex is also qualified as a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). He sits as a Board member of the ACFE UK, being the UK branch of the global anti-fraud organization. He is also a member of the Fraud Advisory Panel.

 

Helen Davenport – Partner, Gowling WLG (UK) LLP

Helen is Head of Data Privacy and Cyber Security for the UK firm. She has 20 years' experience of specialising in the technology and telecoms sector and also as a commercial litigator. Helen is a Certified Information Privacy Professional – Europe (CIPP/E) and advises clients on a range of data privacy and cyber security matters.

She has also advised many technology and telecoms customers and suppliers in relation to issues/disputes arising from contracts for the design, build and supply of IT systems and services. Helen also has Higher Rights of Audience (Civil & Criminal).

She is a member of the International Technology Law Association, the Society for Computers and Law and the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).


Bríd Holden - Principal Associate, Gowling WLG (UK) LLP

Bríd has acted for the Secretary of State for BEIS and the Official Receiver for over 12 years, in directors disqualification proceedings conducted in the public interest. She regularly advises the Official Receiver, Liquidators and corporates on insolvency, multi-jurisdictional fraud and civil asset recovery.  She has significant experience in dealing with the public sector, including HMRC, FCA, CoLP and FSCS.

She has extensive general investigation and litigation experience in fraud, insolvency and civil asset recovery claims.  She has been involved in leading a number of complex and high profile investigations and proceedings from MTIC VAT Fraud to investment frauds involving carbon credits and bitcoin.
