We are all talking about whistleblowing. It's a hot governance and regulatory topic, an employee relations and litigation risk and, as an emotive topic, it's guaranteed to provide headlines and external interest. But at its heart it is a good thing which can highlight issues at an early stage and can be a bedrock to a good culture and staff wellbeing.

SPEAKERS
Simon Stephen, Legal Director, Gowling WLG
Simon is an experienced lawyer but one who has the unique experience of having come back into private practice after an in-house role. Whilst in an internal Employee Relations role in a global investment bank Simon ran his own investigation workload, supported on global investigations and was the global HR lead on whistleblowing – working closely with the whistleblowing team.
Now back at Gowling Simon leads on investigations and whistleblowing and uses his experience to advise clients on all things whistleblowing – from policies, training, managing cases through to compliance with the EU directive and implementing global investigation frameworks.
Jan Stappers, Senior Manager, Partnerships
Jan Tadeusz Stappers is senior manager partnerships for NAVEX Global’s digital whistleblowing solution, WhistleB. More than 10,000 organisations and 50 million employees globally rely on NAVEX Global’s whistleblowing solutions every day to safely report and manage their workplace concerns. Jan has authored various articles on new legislation concerning whistleblower protection and organisational whistleblowing best practices. Jan holds a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) from King's College London in the United Kingdom (EU Competition Law) and a Master’s Degree (LL.M.) from Leiden University in the Netherlands (European Law). He is Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E) with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
Sybille Raphael, Director, Protect
Sybille is an experienced solicitor and employment law specialist who co-ordinates Protect's legal case work and policy work.
She works with employers to develop a ‘speak up culture’, empowering workers to raise concerns when things can be done better and taking an active part in the policy work of the charity including campaigns for improved legal protections.
Previously she was Head of Legal Advice at Working Families where she managed the award-winning Legal Advice Services of the charity and led on Working Families’ pro bono programme
