    Banks and card companies prevented £1.46bn in financial fraud attempts over 2017, equivalent to £2 in every £3 of attempted fraud being stopped, but UK Finance data also showed £967.8m was lost to the practice.

    The incidence of Fraud continued to climb this year. Overall, 84% of surveyed execs report their company fell victim to at least one instance of fraud in 2017, up from 82% in 2016 representing a continuous, year-in-year rise since 2012, when the reported incidence was 61%.

    Estimates from the Crime Survey of England and Wales (CSEW) indicate 4.7m incidents of fraud and computer misuse were experienced by adults in the year ending September 2017, marking a 15 per cent decrease from the previous survey year.
